Cheque presentation to Children’s Hospital set for Tuesday

Prior to the beginning of the 2008/09 season, the British Columbia Hockey League and its 16 member teams, in partnership with Save-On Foods, selected the B.C. Children’s Hospital Foundation as the focal point of a two-week charitable campaign.

On Tuesday, those efforts will culminate with the presentation of a cheque for $20,000 prior to the game between the Victoria Grizzlies and Vernon Vipers at the 2009 RBC Cup in Victoria.

BCHL Chairman Darcy Rota, Commissioner John Grisdale and Save-On Foods representative Mike Lefebvre will be on hand at the Bear Mountain Arena to present the cheque to Jessica Bell from B.C. Children’s Hospital.

This season, a pair of special weeks took place around the league in November and February. During those weeks, BCHL players, coaches, team staff and volunteers joined with local Save-On Foods employees to raise money at selected home games.

“On behalf of the British Columbia Hockey League, our Governors and member teams, and our many players, staff and volunteers, I’m very proud to be able to take part in such a tremendous event,” BCHL Commissioner John Grisdale says.

“Partnering with B.C. Children’s Hospital has been an inspiring experience for so many people around the league, and this presentation is able to take place because of countless hours of hard work for an outstanding cause.”

“I’d also like to take the opportunity to thank Save-On Foods, which does so much work to benefit children and communities in B.C., and to the many BCHL fans who gave generously and helped make this campaign such a success.”
