Chiefs get timely goals, 35 saves from Walsh, to top Burnaby

The Langley Chiefs made a sound transition from offensively dangerous to defensively sound on Friday night, and the switch in style paid off with a 2-0 road victory over the Burnaby Express.

A night after the Chiefs had put eight past the Express in a win on home ice, they had to settle for single markers from Joe Walter and Jordan Sims in the first and second periods respectively and an oustanding performance in net from Andrew Walsh in order to seal the two points.

Walsh stood tall to the tune of 35 saves, including 25 over a frenetic final 40 minutes.

Walter opened the scoring at the 7:23 mark of the opening period, while Sims added the insurance midway through the second. Trevor Gerling, Travis Irving, Josh Myers and Kevin Tuohy picked up assists on the evening.

Express starter Harrison May was solid between the pipes on a night where he received no offensive support. May turned aside 29 shots in a hard-luck loss.

Burnaby will happy to be rid of Langley — for a few weeks, at least — while preparing for a Sunday afternoon encounter with the Victoria Grizzlies. Meanwhile, the Chiefs return home to play host to that same Grizzlies squad at the Langley Events Centre on Saturday evening.
