Chiefs goalie Halpenny off to Liberty University

Chilliwack Chiefs goalie Josh Halpenny has made a decision for his hockey future and will play for the Flames of Liberty University next season.

Liberty is an American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) program located in Lynchburg, Virginia.

Halpenny, a 5-foot-11, 173-pound native of Chilliwack, backed up Coastal Conference MVP Mitch Gillam last season and fashioned a 6-4 record with a 2.73 goals-against average and .911 save percentage. This season, for a Chiefs club that missed the playoffs, Halpenny made 30 appearances and earned five wins while compiling an .883 save percentage.

"Hopefully I'll be able to move into the starter position eventually and help them out that way, of course," Halpenny told www.liberty.edu. "But even if I'm just in a supporting role on the bench, I hope to be able to be a positive (influence) and just keep the guys motivated."

At Liberty, Halpenny will join fellow BCHL grad and former Salmon Arm SilverBacks captain Brandon Mistal who won the Interior Conference Most Sportsmanlike Player award last year.
