Clippers grad Cheverie earns Player of the Week nod after 2 shutouts

Denver junior goaltender Marc Cheverie has been named National Player of the Week by Inside College Hockey and Red Baron WCHA Defensive Player of the Week for Oct. 26-Nov. 1.

The former Nanaimo Clippers starter earns the honors after posting back-to-back shutouts in No. 2/3 Denver’s road sweep at Minnesota on Oct. 23-24.

Cheverie, who has posted three consecutive shutouts, increased his shutouts minutes streak to 203:19, which ranks second all-time at Denver. He is five minutes and 24 seconds shy of breaking Peter Mannino’s school record of 208:42, set back in 2005.

Cheverie improved to 4-0 overall with a 1.00 goals against average and blistering .966 saves percentage by stopping 30 shots in each of Denver’s 3-0 victories at Minnesota.

Cheverie became the first goaltender to shut out Minnesota in back-to-back games. The last time the Golden Gophers suffered back-to-back shutouts was in 1930.

Cheverie ranks first in the nation in shutouts (3), tied for first in wins, second in saves percentage and fourth in goals against average.

DU hosts Minnesota State in WCHA action this weekend at Magness Arena.
