Langley Chiefs duo secures NCAA scholarships

A pair of first-year Langley Chiefs have secured NCAA scholarship commitments for the 2011/12 season, the club announced Friday.

Chiefs defenseman Tim Daly has committed to attend St. Cloud State University, while forward Brad McBride has chosen to join the Air Force Academy Falcons.

Daly, who has had an impressive week after being named to NHL Central Scouting's Watch List for the 2010 Draft on Monday, said that St. Cloud was the right choice for him at the right time.

“We knew when Tim came to the team he was going to be highly sought after by both schools and the NHL,” Associate Coach and Associate General Manager Barry Wolff explained. “We knew it wouldn’t take long, but we are very happy to know we will have him this year and next and he’ll have a chance to really show what he’s capable of as a Chief.”

The Maple Ridge product has already proven a valuable asset on the point for Langley this year with 9 points through 18 games.

McBride, who appeared in his first game for the Chiefs on Thursday against Powell River, was a highly sought after recruit who comes from a military background having attended Culver Military Academy before moving to Langley this season.

“Obviously we are happy for Brad,” Head Coach and General Manager Harvey Smyl said. “He is a strong two-way player and someone who we are happy to have in the line-up moving forward.”

McBride is expected to provide a solid two-way presence for the Chiefs, adding to an already deep offensive group.

The entire Langley Chiefs organization we would like to wish Tim and Brad all the best and congratulate them on this achievement.
