Clippers ride a balanced attack to bounceback home win

The Nanaimo Clippers shook off a four-game losing streak on home ice Friday, putting in a complete effort in a 5-1 victory over the Powell River Kings.

The Clippers came out strong from the opening faceoff and scored less than a minute into regulation when defenceman Tyler Mah converted on a play set up by Cody Bremner and Tristan Lowenberger. Mah's effort was the first of three first period goals for Nanaimo, as Kyle Kramer and Colton Cyr also tallied prior to intermission.

Cyr scored his second of the night on a power-play in the middle frame, and Nanaimo held the Kings off the scoreboard until Brandon Formosa broke the goose egg at the 5:29 mark of the third period. Bryaden Jaw closed out the scoring for the Clippers.

Mark Segal continued his strong start with Nanaimo, shutting down Powell River with 29 saves on 30 shots. Michael Garteig faced 24 shots in the loss.

Nanaimo closes out the month of October with a visit to Victoria on Saturday night, while the kings return home to prepare for an encounter with the Cowichan Valley Capitals on Sunday.
