The Prince George Spruce Kings are pleased to announce the NCAA Division I scholarship commitment of Michael Colantone with the University of Massachusetts-Lowell beginning with the 2012-13 season.

"We are very proud and happy for Michael (Colantone)," said Spruce Kings general managaer Mike Hawes. "Since coming to the Spruce Kings, he has worked extremely hard and has done very well for us. He is a great role model for other players and represents the team extremely well in the community."

In 22 games with Prince George, Colantone has 13 goals including three game-winners and 24 assists for an average of 1.5 points per game. Colantone was acquired early in the season in a trade with the Victoria Grizzlies where he had a total of 37 points (13 goals 24 assists) in 59 games a season ago.

Colantone will become the first Spruce Kings alumni to attend the University of Massachusetts-Lowell joining BCHL alumni Malcolm Lyles and Tyler Brickler. UMass-Lowell alumni include NHL notables such as Craig MacTavish and Dwayne Roloson.

UMass-Lowell has an enrollment of over 15,000 students offering bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees in engineering, education, fine arts, health and environment, humanities, liberal arts, management, sciences and social sciences.
