One of the most sought-after college prospects has decided his post-junior hockey future. Penticton Vees forward Scott Conway has committed to Providence College for the 2016-17 season, the team announced this week.
The native of Basingstoke, England sits second overall in the league scoring race with 77 points in just 36 games. The 20-year-old is second in the league in goals (37) and points (77), first in points per-game (2.14) and game-winning goals (10), and fourth in power-play goals (12). Twice Conway has been named the BCHL Player of the Week this season and has a 20-game home point streak that started back on September 16th, the Vees home opener.
Prior to joining Penticton, Conway played at Penn State University, where was named to the Big Ten All-Rookie team after putting up 26 points in 34 games. He also won a USHL Clark Cup Championship in 2014 with the Indiana Ice.
Conway says Providence stood out for all the right reasons.
“It was a difficult process choosing on where I was going to play after this year but Providence just felt like the right fit. They’ve got a great program under Head Coach Nate Leaman, who’s established a winning tradition there, and they play in one of the best hockey conferences (Hockey East).”
The Providence College Friars are the defending NCAA Division l men’s ice hockey champions, as they beat Boston University in last year’s Championship. The Friars are a founding member of the Hockey East Conference and in their program’s history they’ve played in the NCAA Tournament 11 times, and have made four appearances at the Frozen Four.
Providence College was established in 1914 and is located in Providence, Rhode Island. The Friars compete in conference play against schools such as Vermont, New Hampshire, Boston College, Boston University and Notre Dame.
With Conway’s commitment, the Vees now have 11 players on their roster with an NCAA Division l scholarship.
