Coquitlam Express blueliner McIntosh to attend Lakehead University

Riley McIntosh's lone season in the BCHL ended a bit sooner than he may have liked with a first-round playoff exit at the hands of the Surrey Eagles but the big defenceman takes away from it something else.

McIntosh has agreed to an offer from Lakehead University in Thunder Bay to play for the Thunderwolves starting in the fall. The Thunderwolves rose as high as seventh in the country while competing in Canadian Interuniversity Sport this past season.

A Coquitlam native, McIntosh spent four seasons in the Western Hockey League with the Kelowna Rockets and Tri-City Americans prior to joining the Express.

“He's a player with WHL experience and he brought a lot of leadership and experience to our room,” said Express head coach John Calvano. “He had an opportunity to play a lot and develop his game and we're happy he'll be continuing his career in the CIS.”

At 6-foot-5 and 205 pounds, McIntosh will bring good size to the Lakehead rearguard corps. He also showed nice offensive ability this year in Coquitlam by notching 11 goals and 25 assists.
