‘Dogs goalie Deo commits to U. of Wisconsin-Eau Claire

Alberni Valley Bulldogs goalie Jay Deo has accepted an offer and will play for the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Blugolds this coming season.

The Langley, B.C. native played his first full BCHL campaign this past season after two seasons with the Calgary Mustangs of the AJHL.

Deo posted a 21-18-2 mark for Alberni Valley to go along with a 3.12 goals-against average and a .914 save percentage. He shone in the playoffs and was key in the Bulldogs' first-round comeback win over Nanaimo, winning three straight games.

In the postseason, the 5-foot-9, 170-pound netminder took Alberni Valley to the third round before they lost to eventual BCHL-champion Surrey. Deo had a 2.37 goals-against average and .935 save percentage in the playoffs.

He is the second BCHL grad to commit to Wisconsin-Eau Claire in recent weeks as he'll join Surrey Eagles blueliner Troy Paterson next season with the Blugolds.

The school's hockey team competes in the NCAA Div. III Northern Collegiate Hockey Association and is the reigning national champion.
