Eagles’ Morley commits to Merrimack College for 2011/12 season

The Surrey Eagles are pleased to announce that another player is officially college-bound. Fan favourite Tyler Morley this week committed to play at Merrimack College, an NCAA Division I school located in North Andover, Massachusetts.

Morley recently completed his second BCHL season, setting career highs in goals and points with 19 and 37 respectively in 53 games played. He more than doubled the 18 points he netted as a rookie in 50 games with the Eagles during the 2008/09 campaign.

“I had the opportunity to check out the school,” said Morley. “They flew me down and everything seemed right – small school, small classes, great hockey coaches. They’re a good hockey team, they play in a good conference; everything seemed right for me.”

The Warriors play in Hockey East, one of the NCAA’s toughest conferences, which features last year’s NCAA champions, Boston University.

“The farthest team is a two-hour drive, so there’s a rivalry between every team,” explained Morley. “This year, ninth place to third place was separated by two points, so it’s just so close that every game matters. I’m in for some intense hockey when I get there.”

Morley hasn’t decided what his major will be, but he has some time to decide. He won’t join the Warriors until the fall of 2012.

“Merrimack can expect an energy guy that’s got skill,” said Eagles head coach Shane Kuss. “He’s one of the hardest hitters for his size and he gives it all he’s got – they’ve got a character guy there. We’re proud of Tyler. He’s going to be with us for another two years before he goes and that’s a pretty exciting thing for our hockey club.”
