Eagles third-period rally evens series

Nathan Renouf's third-period goal lifted the Surrey Eagles to a 4-3 win over the Langley Rivermen and tied the series at a game a piece. Eagles forwards Chase McMurphy and Danton Heinen chipped in with a goal and an assist each in the win while goaltender Bo Didur made 28 saves. 

The Eagles started the third period by giving up an early goal as Rivermen forward Matt Ustaski scored just 46 seconds in to give Langley their third one-goal lead of the game. With Rivermen defenseman Charlie Pelnik in the box for cross checking, the Eagles once again battled back when McMurphy tied the game with the assist going to Heinen. Nathan Renouf connected with twin brother Jonah on the winner and the Eagles held on.

Matt Ustaski had two goals for the Rivermen and Brock Crossthwaite made 32 saves in the loss.

Brett Mulcahy had a hat trick as the Vernon Vipers evened their series with the West Kelowna Warriors after a convincing 4-1 victory. The Warriors not only lost the game but lost two star players to injury when top defenseman Adam Plant left the game in the first period after taking a hard hit against the boards and high-scoring forward Seb Lloyd left the game after sustaining an injury on a knee on knee collision. Vipers goalie Austin Smith made 24 saves for the win.

The Alberni Valley Bulldogs outscored the Victoria Grizzlies 5-1 over the second and third periods and Bulldogs forwards Tryg Strand and Craig Martin scored two goals each on their way to a series-tying 6-3 win. Bulldogs forward Hunter Stewart chipped in with three assists and goaltender Connor LaCouvee made 37 saves. Brandon Egli, Garrett Forster and Myles Fitzgerald had goals for the Grizzlies.

Adam Rockwood's goal midway through the thrid period lifted the Coquitlam Express to a 3-2 win over the Prince George Spruce Kings and evened their series at one. The Express started strong as forward Canon Pieper scored 43 seconds in and defenseman Marc Biega scored to give the Express an early 2-0 lead. The Spruce Kings battled back with goals in the first, by Justin Rai, and the second, by Brogan O'Brien. The Express held on after Rockwood's goal thanks to goaltender Gordie Defiel who was named first star after turning aside 39 of 41 shots.

After trailing 3-1 in the second period, the Penticton Vees scored five straight goals, including four in the third, to rally past the Merritt Centennials and take a commanding 2-0 series lead. Vees forward Brad McClure had two goals and two assits as the Centennials paraded to the penalty box taking eight penalties and giving up three power-play goals. James Neil and Sebastien Pare each scored shorthanded goals for Merritt.

Jeff Smith stopped 26 of 27 shots as the Powell River Kings beat the Nanaimo Clippers 3-1 and now lead the series 2-0. The Kings outshot the Clippers 37-27 and led 3-0 on the strength of goals by Kurt Keats, Ryan Scarfo and Jarryd Leung. Luke Sandler had the lone goal for the Clippers who now appear to be in trouble heading home for game three.
