Former Vee Smith is Player of the Week for ECAC’s Colgate

Penticton Vees grad and Dallas Stars draft choice Austin Smith of the Colgate Raiders finished the week scoring five of his team's seven goals in a weekend sweep of the Quinnipiac Bobcats and Princeton Tigers. His efforts earned him the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference's (ECAC) Player of the Week honour.

The Dallas, Texas native tallied his second career hat trick against the Bobcats. Both of Smith's three-goal games have come against Quinnipiac. Smith had all three of Colgate's goals, including his NCAA-leading fourth shorthanded goal, in the 3-1 win Friday night.

He then returned Saturday against Princeton and scored two more goals in a 4-1 win over the Tigers. Smith recorded his fourth and fifth multi-goal games of the season and 12th and 13th of his career. He had both game-winners during the weekend.

In his lone BCHL season in 2007-08, Smith recorded 32 goals and 35 assists in 60 games and added 11 goals and 11 assist in 15 playoff games.

Smith's Colgate teammate Alex Evin, who also played in 2007-08 with Penticton, was an honourable mention this week for the ECAC goalie of the week.
