G. Fitzgerald comes up clutch on PG road swing, earns POW

Prince George Spruce Kings forward Gerry Fitzgerald has been named the BCHL Player of the Week for the week ending Feb. 12, the league announced Monday.

Now the second highest scoring of the Fitzgerald triplets, he tallied four goals and an assist in helping the Spruce Kings to three wins on the road which was a first for the club. Fitzgerald started off with the game-winner and a 1st Star nod against Trail, had another game-winner and 1st Star the next night in Trail and finished up with a goal and an assist in a defeat of Salmon Arm.

It's the first Player of the Week nod for the 5-foot-8, 155-pound Port Alberni native. He's seventh in Spruce Kings scoring and trails brother Leo by two points on the season.

Honourable mentions this week go to Alberni Valley Bulldogs forward Artsiom Kalashnikov (five goals, four assists, two 1st Stars), Chilliwack Chiefs forward Malcolm Gould (four goals, one assist, one GWG, two 1st Stars), Penticton Vees forward Joey Benik (four goals, four assists, 2nd Star), Coquitlam Express forward Alex Petan (four goals, two assists, 1st Star) and Surrey Eagles forward Sean McGovern (three goals, one assist, two 1st Stars).
