Langley Rivermen forward Jordan Geike, Brooks Bandits goaltender Zach Zahara and Salmon Arm Silverbacks forward Landon Mackie have been named the NAPA Auto Parts 3 Stars of the Week.
1st Star – Jordan Geike (F) – Langley Rivermen
Geike finished his week with the most goals in the BCHL with four in two games and also tied for the league lead in points with five.
On Friday, the 20-year-old notched a hat trick for the first time this season, and the second time in his BCHL career, in his team’s 9-5 comeback win over the Coquitlam Express. With Langley down 4-0 after the first period, Geike scored two of his team’s three goals in the second to cut the lead to one, then pitched in with a third goal, as well as an assist, in the final frame. He was named first star of the game. A night later in a rematch with the Express, the Rochester, Minn. native scored in the third period of his team’s 6-3 victory.
After playing with the Chilliwack Chiefs and Nanaimo Clippers earlier in the season, Geike seems to have found a home in Langley and has six goals, two assists and eight points in seven contests since joining the Rivermen.
2nd Star – Zach Zahara (G) – Brooks Bandits
Zahara went 2-0-0 last week, stopping a combined 57 of 59 shots to post a .966 save percentage and a 0.98 goals-against average with one shutout.
The 2005-born netminder started back-to-back games in the Bandits two-game road set against the Spruce Grove Saints. On Friday, Zahara stopped 36 shots, including 15 in both the first and second periods, to earn his second shutout of the season. A night later, the Rockyview, Alta. product made 21 saves on 23 shots in his team’s 3-2 overtime win.
Zahara owns a 24-9-3 record on the season with an .883 save percentage.
3rd Star – Landon Mackie (F) – Salmon Arm Silverbacks
Mackie picked up five points in two games last week to tie for the league lead.
The Stonehill College commit started his week by assisting on both of his team’s goals last Friday night in a 5-2 home loss to the Okotoks Oilers. On Saturday, Mackie collected two goals and an assist and was named second star in the Silverbacks 5-3 road loss to the Vernon Vipers. The Victoria, B.C. native was in on all five of his team’s goals over the weekend.
Since being acquired by Salmon Arm in January, Mackie has points in 10 of 13 contests, including seven multi-point outings. His 20 goals, 28 assists and 48 points in 45 games are all most on his team.
