Gelsinger signs with LSSU

Brayden Gelsinger is a team player but he does like to be first a lot.

He’s first on the team in goals, first in assists and now he’s also the first Victoria Grizzlies player to land a college hockey commitment this season.

The 20-year-old native of Regina, Sask. accepted this week an offer to play NCAA Div. I hockey at Lake Superior State University. Gelsinger’s 18 goals have matched a career high and his 30 assists have him on pace to surpass the 38 he posted a season ago.

The Lakers have recruited heavily from the BCHL in recent seasons with league alums Gordie Defiel, Scott Patterson, Diego Cuglietta, Ryan Renz, Kyle Chatham, Jake Hand and Aidan Wright all on the team’s current roster. Recent West Kelowna Warriors acquisition Bryan Basilico is also committed to LSSU.

Lake Superior State competes in the NCAA’s Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA). The other teams in the conference are Bowling Green, Michigan Tech, Alaska-Anchorage, Alabama-Huntsville, Bemidji State, Northern Michigan, Alaska-Fairbanks and Ferris State.
