Grant in on all four Caps goals, moves into tie for league points lead

Jordan Grant scored twice and assisted on two other goals in leading the Cowichan Valley Capitals to a 4-2 road win over the Langley Chiefs Saturday night.

Langley opened the scoring on Josh Myers' power play goal but Cowichan Valley held a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes on tallies by Grant and Matt Cassidy. The Chiefs tied the game in the second on a goal from Trevor Gerling.

The score remained tied 2-2 until late in the third period when Tyler Matheson potted the winner. Grant added an empty-netter 26 seconds after that to ice it for the Caps.

Grant is now tied with Surrey's Brad McGowan for the BCHL lead in points with 78. The win also tied the Capitals with the Coquitlam Express for the final Coastal Conference playoff spot.

The Penticton Vees continued their Island road trip picking up a point in a 3-2 overtime loss to the Victoria Grizzlies. Trailing 2-0 after goals by Victoria's Joel Lowry and Wesley Myron, Penticton forced OT on a late second-period goal by Brendan O'Donnell and a third-period equalizer by Logan Johnston. Justin Fillion's double-OT goal clinched it for the Grizz.

A tight-checking, well-goaltended game produced a second straight overtime win for the Vernon Vipers as they downed the Trail Smoke Eaters 2-1 in Trail. Smokies' Eric Walker and Vernon's Darren Nowick exchanged first-period goals but neither team could score in the second or third. David Robinson's double-OT goal won it for the Snakes.

A Brad Reid hat trick and four points from Jarryd Ten Vaanholt propelled the Salmon Arm SilverBacks to an 11-4 win over the visiting Prince George Spruce Kings. The Gorillas scored five times in the second period – two from Reid and one each from Cody Michelle, Paul De Jersey and Bryce Gervais, who netted his second of the game. Defenceman Ben Woodley had a multiple-point game for the second straight night for the Spruce Kings.

Four goals in the first period allowed the Surrey Eagles to soar to a 7-2 road win over the Merritt Centennials. Brandon Morley, Brad McGowan, Jeff Vanderlugt and Daniel Gentzler did the damage in the opening frame. Mitch Jones, with two, and Beau Orser made it 7-0 before Jon-Paul Witkop and Jeff Jones could reply for the Cents.

The Westside Warriors scored twice in the first and didn't look back in an 8-1 home win over the Quesnel Millionaires. First star Grayson Downing opened the scoring and then added three assists including a behind-the-back dish to Alex Grieve on the 4-0 goal. Grieve completed his hat trick late in the third. Malcolm Gould had the lone marker for the Mills.
