Grizzlies add to Burnaby’s road woes with shutout victory

A September that ended with a 5-0-0-1 record has yielded to a far less friendly month of October for the Burnaby Express, and that trend took a further turn for the worse on Saturday with a 4-0 shutout loss to the Victoria Grizzlies. The Express, who are nearing the end of a seven-game stretch away from home, dropped their fifth consecutive game overall.

Brandon Fagerheim and Dustin Mowrey paced the Grizzlies to a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes before Sam Grist and Gregory Simpson closed out the scoring with a pair of second period tallies. Mowrey also added a pair of assists in a 3-point night.

Richard Virtanen stopped all 26 shots he faced in the Victoria net to earn the shutout, while Express netminder Harrison May was relieved by Nick Enegren after allowing four goals on 21 shots through two periods.

The Express close out their road trip on Sunday afternoon with a visit to Powell River before returning home to face the Trail Smoke Eaters on Wednesday. The Grizzlies, meanwhile, travel up-island for a Thanksgiving matinee in Nanaimo on Sunday.
