Grizzlies leapfrog Kings in Island standings

Dane Gibson scored the game-winning goal in the third for the Victoria Grizzlies in a 3-2 home win over the Powell River Kings. The win vaults the Grizz past the Kings into second in the Island Division.

Ayden MacDonald opened the scoring for Victoria in the first, Nick Halagian tied it in the second and Jake Emilio put the Grizz up 2-1 heading to the third.

Gibson scored the decisive goal a minute into the third. Jarid Lukosevicius replied for the Kings but that was how it ended. Michael Stiliadis made 27 saves for the win.

Thomas Plese's power-play tally in the third period wound up being the winner as the Salmon Arm Silverbacks downed the visiting Vernon Vipers 4-2. Josh Laframboise and Taylor Maruya put the 'Backs up a pair in the second but TJ Dumonceaux replied before the second intermission. Plese and Carson Bolduc scored in the third to put Salmon Arm up three. Jagger Williamson had a late reply for Vernon.

Scott Patton made 30 saves and Jonathan Desbiens scored twice, including the game-winner, in a 4-2 West Kelowna Warriors road win over the Trail Smoke Eaters. Harlan Orr scored 55 seconds into the third to tie the game 2-2 but Desbiens scored just under five minutes later and Brett Mennear added an empty-netter in the dying seconds.

Tipper Higgins got the winner with 14 seconds to go to rescue a 5-4 win for the Chilliwack Chiefs after they blew a three-goal lead to the Cowichan Valley Capitals. Jordan Kawaguchi scored in the first and again in the second as the Chiefs led 3-0 after two. But Kade Kehoe, Ben Verrall, Luke Santerno and Daniel Wanner all scored for the Caps in 2:05 of the third to take the lead. Scott Davidson then equalized and Higgins won it late.

Demico Hannoun scored the winner and then set up the insurance marker for the Penticton Vees in a 4-2 win over the visiting Alberni Valley Bulldogs. Jack Ramsey and Gabe Bast put the Vees up in the first but Mitch Makin and Marcus Russel replied early in the second. Hannoun scored unassisted for the winner and then helped set up Patrick Newell's goal in the third.
