Corey Mackin became the first BCHL player since Mitch MacMillan in 2010 to score 50 goals in a season as he tallied twice to help the Coquitlam Express to a 6-4 home win over the Cowichan Valley Capitals.
Mackin's milesone marker completed a third-period comeback for the Express. The Caps went up 4-3 at 12:20 of the final frame on Luke Santerno's goal but Brendan Gulka replied 26 seconds later. Brett Supinski's goal less than a minute after that was the winner and Mackin sealed the deal with his empty-netter.
Ryan Burton scored twice and Julien Lepage had three helpers for the visitors. Mackin had a four-point evening giving him 103 points on the season. Braden Krogfoss made 29 saves for the win.
Kyle Marino set up three goals, including Rylan Yaremko's power-play winner, and was named 1st Star as the West Kelowna Warriors got an important 6-2 win over the visiting Chilliwack Chiefs. Jordan Kawaguchi put the Chiefs up 2-1 early in the second but it was all Warriors after that. Jonathan Desbiens got his first of two and Yaremko followed with his winning marker.
The Salmon Arm Silverbacks kept pace in the Interior playoff hunt, getting two goals from Carson Bolduc in a 4-3 home win over the Alberni Valley Bulldogs. It was 2-2 after two and Colton Thibault's goal in the final frame for the Backs looked like it might be the winner until Dylan Haugen tied it with 34 seconds left. But Bolduc scored the winner 10 seconds later.
The Merritt Centennials fell back into a tie with West Kelowna and Salmon Arm after a 4-1 road loss to the Penticton Vees. Steen Cooper's second-period tally was the winner with Dakota Conry and Tyson Jost adding on in the third. Jake Clifford had the lone Cents tally in the first.
Spencer Unger's third-period goal for the Surrey Eagles secured a 1-1 tie with the visiting Prince George Spruce Kings. The game was scoreless until 16:58 of the second when Jeremiah Luedtke opened the scoring. Unger scored 4:42 into the third. Christian Short made 36 saves for Surrey while Jesse Jenks made 44 for PG.
Devin Brosseau had a goal and three assists for the Nanaimo Clippers in a 6-1 home win over the Powell River Kings. Goals by Cole Maier and Nic Gushue were enough in the first for the Clips. Nick Halagian had the lone Kings goal late in the opening frame. Jake Jackson and Brosseau tallied in the second and Guillaume Decelles made 33 saves for the win.
A seven-goal third period for the Vernon Vipers turned a close game into a rout in an 11-3 win over the visiting Trail Smoke Eaters. Jake Lucchini's second of the game for Trail made it 3-3 at 7:56 of the second. Jagger Williamson's first of two was the winner and in the final frame and he added another early in the third, followed by Blaine Caton, Linden Hora, Michael Roberts, Colton McCarthey with two and Anthony Latina.
