Head commits to Quinnipiac

West Kelowna Warriors defenceman Wyatt Head will be playing his hockey outside of the Okanagan for the first time ever next year as he has committed to play for the Quinnipiac Bobcats in 2019-20.

After playing all his minor hockey in his hometown of Kelowna, Head joined the Warriors at the end of the 2016-17 season and has been there ever since. The 19-year-old has played 77 career BCHL games and is currently enjoying a breakout season offensively as he is fourth in scoring among all defencemen with 10 points in 11 games.

Quinnipiac has been a hotbed for BCHL talent over the last number of years. This year’s Bobcats roster features 10 alums, including Head’s former West Kelowna teammate Michael Lombardi who just started his freshman year.

Other current BCHLers committed to Quinnipiac include Austin Spiridakis of the Alberni Valley Bulldogs, Skyler Brind’Amour of the Chilliwack Chiefs, Matt Fawcett of the Powell River Kings, Corey Clifton of the Surrey Eagles, Tyler Ghirardosi of the Trail Smoke Eaters and PJ Fletcher of the Wenatchee Wild.

Quinnipiac is located in Hamden, Conn. and plays in the NCAA’s ECAC Hockey conference. The Bobcats have made it all the way to the national championship game twice in recent years, in 2013 and 2016, but ultimately fell short both times.
