Hertz’s hat trick leads Mills to overtime victory over Langley

Trever Hertz scored a hat trick and assisted on Tyler French's overtime winner, leading the Quesnel Millionaires to a 4-3 home ice victory over the Langley Chiefs on Friday evening.

Hertz, who was named the game's first star, scored power-play goals in the first, second and third periods prior to setting up French for the decisive goal 45 second into overtime. Sam Higgins assisted all three of Hertz's goals, while Skyler Smutek picked up a pair of helpers.

The Chiefs managed a point despite being down a goal and facing a Millionaires' man advantage with less than two minutes remaining in regulation. But a Trevor Gerling shorthanded tally at the 18:13 mark of the third period forced overtime for Langley.

Colton Beck and Marcus Watson also scored for the Chiefs, with Watson adding an assist on his team's opening goal on a second period power play.

Kirby Halcrow put in a stellar performance in net on the day he was named to Team Canada West's roster for the 2009 World Junior A Challenge. Halcrow turned aside 34 of 37 Chiefs' shots in the victory. Langley starter Andrew Walsh made 33 saves in a losing effort.

Langley completes its three-game trip through Northern British Columbia on Saturday with a visit to Williams Lake, while the Millionaires host the Powell River Kings, who are riding a seven-game winning streak.
