It’s Kings and Vees in the BCHL Finals

The BCHL Finals matchup has been determined as the Powell River Kings and Penticton Vees were both victorious in their respective Game 5 contests Monday night.

In Penticton, the Vees scored four times in the first period on their way to a 6-2 win over the Merritt Centennials.

Bryce Gervais was named 1st Star and scored the first goal of the game just 2:43 in with Wade Murphy and Logan Johnston tallies following. Johnston's goal came on the power play and proved to be all the scoring the Vees would need on the night.

But Joey Benik added another shortly after to make in 4-0 Vees late in the first. Silvan Harper got the Cents on the board just before the end of the first period.

Gervais and Ryan Reilly scored in the middle frame to remove all doubt as to the outcome of the game. Reece Willcox scored for Merritt with three seconds remaining in the third period.

Chad Katunar made 28 stops to earn the win while Mario Lucia and Troy Stecher had two helpers apiece.

The Powell River Kings are heading to their fourth consecutive BCHL Final after a 3-0 win over the Surrey Eagles.

Evan Richardson's opening goal was the game winner but Daniel Schuler added another before the end of the first period. Cohen Adair pounded the final nail with a goal late in the third.

Sean Maguire got his second shutout of the playoffs, and the series, making 27 saves.

The Finals begin on Friday, April 6 at South Okanagan Events Centre in Penticton.
