It takes a special combination of athletic and academic prowess to earn entry to an Ivy League school to play sports.
But Merritt Centennials captain Brett Jewell has proven worthy in both areas and has earned a commitment to Yale University for next season.
Jewell registered 15 goals and 21 assists this season while not missing a game. The 6-foot-1, 185-pound forward has two goals and two assists through three playoff games.
At Yale, Jewell will join a Bulldogs program that won an NCAA national title in 2013. Yale competes in the ECAC Hockey conference alongside Harvard, Dartmouth, Clarkson, RPI, Colgate, Brown, Princeton, Cornell, St. Lawrence, Union and Quinnipiac.
Jewell is the third current BCHLer to commit to Yale along with Prince George’s Kyle Johnson and Victoria’s Tyler Welsh.
Former Surrey Eagles defenceman Dan O’Keefe is the only former BCHLer on the Bulldogs 2016-17 roster.
