The Powell River Kings are pleased to announce the acquisition of 4 new players. Defensemen Louis-Pierre Godbout, and Jonathan Corriveau-Lacasse, and forwards Matthiew St-Onge, and Maxime Mineau will be joining the Powell River Kings squad for the 2004-2005 Season.
Louis-Pierre Godbout
Louis-Pierre is an 18 year old offensive defenseman from Montmagny, Quebec. At 5’9″, and 185 lbs, Godbout was the captain of the Midget Express Rive Sud, and was the recipient of the Most Valuable Player award. Named to the 1st all star team, Godbout finished the season with 15 goals, 22 assists and 88 penalty minutes. “Louis-Pierre is a solid player.” Says Kings Head Coach and General Manager Terry Perkins. “He may be small in stature but he is very strong physically.” Says Perkins. “He makes great passes coming out of the zone, and we believe that he can develop into a great player in our league.”
“Louis-Pierre is a good kid who is very excited to come out West” Says Darren Rodney, Kings Assistant General Manager and Associate Coach who went to Quebec in late spring to meet with the players and watch them skate. “His style really fits well with the style of play found in the BCHL, and he’s just the type of player we were looking for.”
Jonathan Corriveau-Lacasse
Jonathan is an 18 year old right shot defenseman from Marieville, Quebec. At 6′ and 190 lbs, Corriveau-Lacasse had 16 goals and 23 assits for 39 points and 142 penalty minutes in 49 games as a rookie with Frontaliers de Coaticook last season. “Jonathan is a very skilled offensive defenseman with a great shot and an ability to score goals” says Perkins. “We signed him as an underaged player last season in an attempt to replace Cleve Kinley, but ended up losing the CHA appeal. He expressed an interest in coming out West again this season so we jumped at the chance to have him on our roster” adds Perkins.
Matthieu St – Onge
Matthieu is an 18 year old forward from Bromont, Quebec. At 5’11” and 185lbs, St – Onge had 28 goals and 46 assits for 74 points and 52 Penalty minutes in 47 games, scoring 13 of his 28 goals on the powerplay. Matthieu led the College Champlain (Sherbrooke) in scoring and was named rookie of the year ending the season 7th overall in League scoring. “Matthiew has outstanding speed, great skills, and loves to put the puck in the net” Says Rodney. “He has the skills and potential to be an all-star in the BCHL” Perkins adds.
Maxime Mineau
Maxime is an 18 year old forward from St-Marthe-du-Cap, Quebec. At 5’10” and 175 lbs, Mineau had 10 goals and 14 assits for 24 points and 87 penalty minutes in 47 games with Titan College Lafleche last season. “Maxime is an offensive minded forward with good speed” says Rodney. “He’s a play making forward with a good nose for the net”.
Godbout was signed earlier this summer, while St-Onge, Corriveau-Lacasse, and Mineau were all acquired through cash deals.
“I’ve had a lot of experience working with players from Quebec, and have always had a lot of success” Says Rodney. “These four players in particular are good kids who will do very well in this league.”
