Kings add alum Van Diemen as assistant coach

The Powell River Kings Junior `A’ Hockey Club is pleased to announce a key addition to their coaching staff. Chad Van Diemen joins Kent Lewis and Shane Luckinchuk behind the Kings bench for the 2009-10 season.

Van Diemen spent last season as an assistant coach with the Chase Chiefs of the KIJHL and also has time behind the bench with the Thompson Blazers of the B.C. Major Midget League.

The native of Kamloops began his BCHL playing career with the Nanaimo Clippers coached by none other than Kent Lewis. The defenceman then moved onto the Powell River Kings before finishing up his junior career with the Quesnel Millionaires. Chad earned a Division I scholarship to Iona College in New York before moving onto Manhattanville College earning a Bachelor of Arts Degree.

“I’m very excited to come to Powell River and join a program that is going in the right direction,” said Van Diemen. “Kent and Shane have done great things with the Kings the last couple seasons and I hope I can add to the continued success in Powell River.”

Head Coach and General Manager Kent Lewis added, “We’re happy to add a quality person in Chad and he brings the knowledge and work ethic we require in our organization. Having known him as a player he is a quality defenceman who excelled at the junior and college level and who will be excellent in working with all our players.”
