Kings extend win streak to seven with victory in Prince George

At home or on the road, there are few teams hotter than the Powell River Kings. The Coastal Conference leaders extended their October winning strak to seven games on Friday night, topping the Spruce Kings by a 5-1 margin in Prince George.

The Kings opened the scoring 5:27 into regulation on a shorthanded effort from Chad Niddery. Powell River then bounced back quickly after Sam Muchalla knotted the score at 1-1 early in the second period, with Andrew Pettitt, Mitch Labreche and Mat Bodie scoring a trio of goals in the span of just 2:29. Craig Eisenhut capped the scoring at 15:38 of the third period.

Labreche, Eisenhut and Bodie each added an assist on the night, while Robbie Bailey added two helpers. Kings starter Michael Garteig was named the game's first star after turning aside 20 of 21 Spruce Kings shots.

Kyle Nielsen took the loss for Prince George, allowing four goals on 18 shots before being relieved by Alex Wright  midway through the second period. Nielsen made 13 saves and allowed one goal in relief.

The loss was the third straight for Prince George, who has not fared well against Coastal Conference opponents. Tonight's defeat was the third in as many games against inter-conference vistitors.

The Spruce Kings will wrap a three-game weekend homestand on Sunday against the defending RBC Cup champion Vernon Vipers, while Powell River continues their four-game Interior road swing with a visit to Quesnel on Saturday.
