Kings shut down Vernon in shutout victory, take 2-1 series lead

The Powell River Kings continued to build off their momentum from a win in Vernon in Game 2, returning home to defeat the defending BCHL Champions by a 4-0 score and taking a 2-1 series lead in the 2010 Fred Page Cup Finals.

Chad Niddery put the Kings ahead on a first period power-play off a play started by Cody Rainaldi, and the 19-year old forward returned the favour early in the second when he set up Rainaldi for the 2-0 marker.

The Powell River power-play continued to punish the Vipers in the third period, as back-to-back man-advantage goals from Andrew Pettitt and Mat Bodie early in the frame gave the Kings all the breathing room they would need on the evening.

Josh Watson was once again outstanding in net for the Coastal champs, picking up the shutout in Game 3 with 28 stops — including 16 in a frenzied second period. Graeme Gordon made 26 saves in the loss for Vernon.

The Vipers will look to rebound from the defeat on Tuesday night when Game 4 faces off from the Hap Parker Arena in Powell River. Gametime is 7:00 PM.
