League record 410 BCHL alumni to play NCAA Div. I hockey in 2022-23

The college hockey season officially gets going this weekend for many programs across the NCAA and there will be a league record 410 BCHL alumni on Division I rosters during the 2022-23 season.

This surpasses last year’s high water mark of 380 alumni playing college hockey.

All 18 teams have multiple alumni in the NCAA this year, including the newest BCHL franchise, the Cranbrook Bucks, who have four players on Division I rosters after only two years of existence.

There is at least one former BCHL player on 61 of the 62 Division I programs, with the Stonehill College, the most recent program to receive Division I status, as the only team without a BCHL connection.

The program with the most league alumni is Bentley University who will ice 17 former BCHL players on their roster. Brown University and Quinnipiac University each have 14 alumni on their roster, while Yale University and last year’s number-one ranked team Minnesota State University have 13.

Broken down by conference, ECAC Hockey leads the way with 113 league alumni, then it’s Atlantic Hockey with 77, the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) and Hockey East each with 63, the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) with 40 and the Big Ten with 25. 29 alumni are playing for independent programs.
