Martin Kariya to represent Canada at Spengler Cup

Victoria Salsa grad Martin Kariya has been named to the roster for the Canadian Men's National Ice Hockey Team that will participate in the Spengler Cup, Hockey Canada announced.

Kariya, who is playing for Langnau in the Swiss Elite League, will join the team for its first game of the event versus Czech representatives Energie Karlovy Vary on Friday, December 26th.

Also competing in the event are Dynamo Moscow (Russia), HC Davos (Switzerland) and ERC Ingolstadt (Germany). The five teams will play a round-robin format with the top two teams meeting in the tournament final on Wednesday, December 31st.

Last season, the North Vancouver native notched 16 goals and 37 assists for the American Hockey League's Peoria Riverman, the top minor league affiliate of the St. Louis Blues.

After graduating from the British Columbia Hockey League, Martin followed in the footsteps of older brothers Paul and Steve and attended the University of Maine. Paul is currently playing with the St. Louis Blues while Steve is suiting up for HPK Hameenlinna in the Finnish Elite League.
