Matthews commits to RIT

After playing games in the BCHL, the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) and the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) over the last four years, Coquitlam Express goaltender Kolby Matthews will be staying in one place starting next year as he has committed to the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) Tigers for the 2019-20 season.

Matthews has been a rock in net for the Express this year with a record of 7-5-0, the third-highest save percentage in the league at .923 and the sixth-best goals-against average at 2.31, helping his team to the second-best record in the BCHL.

Since the 2015-16 season, Matthews has played games for Coquitlam, the Battlefords North Stars of the SJHL and the Calgary Canucks of the AJHL.

RIT’s roster this season features four BCHL alums in former Surrey Eagles goalie Christian Short, former Powell River Kings defenceman Adam Brubacher, former Langley Rivermen defenceman Spencer Berry and former Chililwack Chiefs forward Will Calverley.

RIT is located in Rocherster, N.Y. and the Tigers play in the Atlantic Hockey conference. They are off to a 2-2-0 start with wins over UMass Lowell and Colgate.
