Mendel earns BCHLPOW with good start to Finals

Mendel225Penticton Vees defenceman Griffin Mendel has been named the BCHL Player of the Week for the week ending April 16, the league announced Tuesday.

Mendel hit the scoresheet both nights as the Vees earned a split on the road in Games 1 and 2 of the Fred Page Cup BCHL Finals against the Chilliwack Chiefs. The 6-foot-4, 220-pound blueliner had the first goal of the game and was named 3rd Star in Game 1 which ended up a 4-2 win for the Chiefs. Mendel followed that up with a pair of assists in Game 2 as the Vees won 5-1.

A native of Kelowna, B.C., Mendel’s three points leads all defencemen so far in the Finals.
