Mills’ comeback nets a point, but Vipers triumph in OT

The Quesnel Millionaires picked up a valuable point in a tough rink, coming back from 2-0 down to force overtime against the Vernon Vipers but ultimately dropping a 3-2 decision.

Connor Jones and Braden Pimm put the Vipers on the board with second period markers after Vernon had shelled their vistors for 21 shots — but failed to score — in the opening 20 minutes. But a shorthanded effort from Taylor Holst drew the Mills within a goal, and Matthew Herskovitz made up the difference when he tied the game at the 12:23 mark of the third period.

Quesnel netminder Luke Siemens faced 44 shots through regulation and had turned aside another five in overtime when Garrett Noonan beat him to end the game on the 50th Vipers' shot of the night. Noonan's OT winner was assisted by team captain Kevin Kraus and Rob Short.

Noonan picked up first star honours, while Siemens — who made 47 saves — was named the game's second star. Vipers starter Graeme Gordon faced 26 shots, turning aside 24 in the victory.

Both teams are now idle through the week and return to the ice on Friday, with the Vipers travelling to Merritt and Quesnel hosting the Prince George Spruce Kings.
