Murphy banks OT win for Grizzlies

In Victoria, the Grizzlies saw a three-goal third period lead disappear but still picked up two points after Wade Murphy ended the game 1:27 into overtime to seal a 6-5 win over the Cowichan Valley Capitals.

Pearce Eviston opened the scoring for the Grizzlies and struck again early in the third to put the hosts up comfortably at 5-2, but Cowichan Valley took over from there with goals from Alex Halloran, Jordan Grant and Mike Hammond to even the game and earn a valuable road point for the Capitals.

Eviston and David Morley — with a goal and two assists — paced the Grizzlies offence while Hammond and Grant each recorded two-goals on the night. Matt Ginn posted the win for Victoria, who put 38 pucks on Cowichan starter Derek Dun.

Meanwhile, in Coquitlam, the Vernon Vipers received an overtime winner from Bryce Kakoske to earn a 4-3 victory over the Express. The hosts made the most of limited opportunities, scoring twice on six shots in the first period before the Vipers jumped in front on third period goals from Aaron Hadley and Todd Skirving. But Garrick Perry's shorthanded goal at the midway point forced OT and earned his team a point versus the defending RBC Cup champs.

In Surrey, the Eagles held the Powell River Kings to a single goal and earned a 1-1 draw against the BCHL leaders. Blueliners Justin Dasilva and Riley Sweeney exchanged power-play goals during the second period but the game was otherwise taken over by the play of Kings starter Michael Garteig and Eagles counterpart Karel St. Laurent, who made 35 and 39 saves respectively.

In Alberni Valley, the Bulldogs received a goal and an assist from captain Trent Dorais to pace a 3-0 shutout win over the Quesnel Millionaires. Josh Mitchell opened the scoring for the 'Dawgs in the first period before Brandon Adams and Dorais added on in the second and third. Alberni starter Kiefer Giroux outdueled Adam Harris in net, stopping all 19 shots that he faced.

In Nanaimo, Lino Chimienti made 23 saves to post his first BCHL shutout and help the Merritt Centennials to a 3-0 victory over the Clippers. Jeff Jones opened the scoring in the first period from the Cents, who then received goals in the second from Chad Brears and Max Vallis. Brears and Vallis each posted two points on the night, while Nanaimo starter Charles-Andre Pelletier suffered the loss.

In Westside, blueliner Tom Kroshus scored back-to-back power-play goals in the span of 2:51 during the second period to lead the Warriors to a 5-4 decision over the Prince George Spruce Kings. Tyler Brickler and Brett McKinnon had already given the hosts a lead before Kroshus's outburst, but Prince George fought back with a pair of goals from RJay Berra and a single from Jeff Earnest to make things interesting in the third period.

In Salmon Arm, the Penticton Vees avenged a road loss to the SilverBacks three nights earlier with a 2-1 victory at the Sunwave Centre. The hosts took the lead in the first period courtesy a Brandon Mistal effort, but the Vees evened the game in the second off a Joey Benik marker and netted the winner on a third period power-play goal from Mark MacMillan. Billy Faust made 24 saves in the win.
