Nanaimo clip 11 in win over Chiefs

The Nanaimo Clippers broke out the big guns on Sunday afternoon to roll over the Coastal Conference leaders, breaking into double digits in an 11-5 victory vs. the Langley Chiefs.

Holding a 3-2 lead after 20 minutes, the Clippers exploded for five unanswered goals in the seconds and three more in the third before Langley replied with three of their own to close the gap.

Andrew Gladiuk and Ryan Stanimir led the way for the hosts with six points respectively, as Gladiuk scored four times while Stanimir set up five Nanaimo tallies. Graeme McCormack and Mike Puddifant each contributed three points apiece from the blueline, boosting a power-play that clicked on six of nine opportunities.

Brad McBride scored twice and had three points in defeat, while Trace Strahle, Mason Blacklock and Brandon Thompson added singles. Wyatt Galley got the star but was relieved after eight goals late in the second period.

Meanwhile, in the only other Sunday contest, the Victoria Grizzlies saw Matt Ginn impress once again in shutting out the Salmon Arm SilverBacks by a 5-0 margin. Pearce Eviston and Taylor Love each notch a pair of goals for the Grizzlies, while Joel Lowry scored and added four assists to wrap a career night.

Ginn stood tall in stopping 31 shots on a day when Victoria was actually outshot 31-27. The win was the eighth of the season for the 19-year old, second only to Powell River's Michael garteig for the conference lead.
