NCAA Roundup: Yip leads BU to Hockey East semi-finals

News and highlights from around NCAA Division I Hockey featuring British Columbia Hockey League grads for the weekend of March 9th to 15th:

Hockey East Quarter-Finals — Boston University vs. Maine

BU senior and Coquitlam Express grad Bradon Yip had a memorable weekend in his team's 2-1 series win over Maine, stepping up large in the third and final game. With a spot in the Hockey East semis on the line, Yip scored once and assisted on another goal in the first period en route to a 6-2 win.

Maine forward and Penticton Vees alum Tanner House starred in a losing effort, scoring once while adding three assists in the series. House, a sophomore, finished third in Black Bears scoring with 10 goals and 14 assists.


CCHA Quarter Finals — Alaska (Fairbanks) vs. Ohio State

A trio of Victoria Grizzlies grads propelled Fairbanks to a series win over the Buckeyes. Adam Naglich and Kevin Petovello did the offensive damage on Friday, each scoring once and adding an assist. On Sunday, Ron Meyers scored the game's only goal in a 1-0 win that clinched a spot in the conference semis next weekend.

Penticton Vees grad Cory Schneider and Vernon Vipers counterpart Hunter Bishop each tallied a point in Ohio State's 4-2 win on Saturday that forced the deciding game a day later.


WCHA Final Five — Denver vs. Alaska-Anchorage

Nanaimo Clippers grad Marc Cheverie outdueled Vernon Vipers alum Bryce Christianson in Dever's 2-0 series win over Anchorage. Cheverie stopped 50 shots in the two games while Christianson made 43 saves/

Burnaby Express grad Patrick Wieircioch assisted in both games while Paul Crowder and Tommy Grant each contributed points for the Seawolves. Denver advances to play Wisconsin in the WCHA semi-finals next weekend.


Atlantic Hockey Quarter Finals — RIT vs. Holy Cross

Salmon Arm SilverBacks grad Brodie Sheahan was an offensive force in a losing effort for Holy Cross on the weekend, opening the series with a two-goal, two-assist performance. Sheahan added two points a night later and another pair on Sunday.

Stevan Matic was a standout for RIT in the series, scoring once and adding three assists, while Trail Smoke Eaters alum Jesse Newman assisted twice in the opener on Friday. RIT advances to host Mercyhurst in the Atlantic Hockey semi-finals next weekend.
