Payne earns NCAA future with Engineers

GPayneUsing a 6-foot-2, 200-pound frame, Langley Rivermen forward Gavin Payne has added the elements to his game necessary to make an impact in college hockey.

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) must think so as well because they’ve secured his services for their NCAA Div. I program for next season.

Payne has posted 16 goals and 21 assists in 54 games so far this season while getting ice time in all situations for the Rivermen. This will be Payne’s lone BCHL campaign after spending last year in the North American Hockey League.

At RPI, the native of Minnetonka, Minn. will join an Engineers program that competes in the NCAA’s ECAC Hockey conference along with Harvard, Quinnipiac, St. Lawrence, Clarkson, Princeton, Colgate, Yale, Brown, Cornell, Dartmouth and Union.

BCHL alums on the Engineers roster this season are Evan Tironese, Jared Wilson, Will Reilly, Louie Nanne, Meirs Moore and Chase Perry. Other current BCHLers committed to RPI for the future are Owen Stout, Jacob Modry and Cory Babichuk.

RPI is located in Troy, N.Y. Union College in Schenectady is their closest NCAA conference rival.
