Penticton grad Duncan Keith wins Norris as NHL’s Top Defenceman

British Columbia Hockey League graduate and Chicago Blackhawks blueliner Duncan Keith capped a dream season on Wednesday night, adding a Norris Trophy as the National Hockey League's Top Defenceman to a haul that has included Stanley Cup and Olympic Gold wins in recent months.

The former Penticton Panthers defenceman was announced as the Norris winner at the NHL's 2010 NHL Awards in Las Vegas, beating out competition from Mike Green of the Washington Capitals and Drew Doughty of the Los Angeles Kings.

Keith posted a career year offensively during the 2009/10 campaign while further cementing his reputation as one of hockey's most mobile playmakers. He set personal highs with 14 goals and 55 assists, good for second in team scoring. His 69 points were the second-most amongst NHL defenceman while his plus/minus total of +21 tied for ninth at his position.

He then cemented his growing repuatation as a big-game player during the Stanley Cup Playoffs, excelling in a shutdown role against top lines while totalling 17 points in 22 games. The 26-year old also played a key role on Canada's blueline during the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver, helping his nation to a gold medal.
