Penticton grad Evin named ECAC Goaltender of the Week

Following his weekend performance at Princeton and Quinnipiac, Penticton Vees grad and Colgate University netminder Alex Evin has been named the ECAC Goaltender of the Week, it was announced by the league office Monday.

“Alex is really seeing the puck well and is no doubt at the top of his game right now,” said Colgate head coach Don Vaughan. “One of the main things regarding Alex is that he is finally healthy, which has made a big difference. Alex is achieving a lot of the things we thought he was capable of.”

The sophomore stopped 57 of 60 shots thrown on net en route to leading the Raiders to a weekend split.

In the opener, Evin turned aside 23 shots as Colgate completed its first regular-season sweep of Princeton since the 2004/05 campaign with a 3-1 victory at Hobey Baker Rink. Despite a 2-0 loss to Quinnipiac the following evening, Evin kept the Raiders within striking distance with a 34-save performance. The only goals allowed versus the Bobcats came on a breakaway and a Quinnipiac two-man advantage in the closing minutes of the game. He finished the weekend with a .950 save percentage.

In his last seven games, Evin sports a 4-2-1 overall mark and has stopped 191 of 204 shots for a .936 save percentage. During this stretch, his goal against average has dropped from 3.48 to 2.65 and his save percentage is up to .909 from .885.

Colgate, who is 11-11-5 overall and 8-6-1 in league play, hosts five home games in its last seven-regular season games beginning Friday as sixth-ranked Yale comes to town. Opening face-off is set for a 7 p.m. start.
