Perry clinches OT win for Clippers in Powell River

The Powell River Kings couldn't turn shots into goals against the Nanaimo Clippers on Saturday night, and it cost them.

Despite outshooting their visitors by a 36-15 margin through regulation, the Kings couldn't convert when it counted and eventually fell by a 2-1 score after Joe Perry converted the overtime winner with Andrew Pettitt in the penalty box serving a high sticking penalty.

Pettitt was the lone goal scorer for Powell River, beating Clippers netminder Loic Boivin on an early second period power play. Cody Rainaldi picked up the lone assist on Pettitt's goal.

Nanaimo forward Cody Bremner tied the game on his conference-leading seventh goal of the season midway through the third, sending the game onto extra time despite being outshot by margins of 10-4, 12-8 and 14-3 through three periods.

Josh Watson was the hard-luck loser in goal for the Kings, allowing a pair of goals on 19 shots. Boivin was named the game's first star after a 36-save performance.

Nanaimo continues its weekend road swing with a Sunday matinee in Burnaby (2:30 PM, Bill Copeland Sports Centre), while Powell River travels to Victoria to face the Grizzlies on Tuesday.
