Coquitalm Express alum Alex Petan has been recognized for a big weekend with the Michigan Tech Huskies and has earned the Western Collegiate Hockey Association's (WCHA) rookie of the week award.
The 5-foot-8, 155-pound freshman helped the Huskies to a split with conference-leading St. Cloud State last weekend. The Delta, B.C. native scored three points and was +2 in the set.
He scored all of his three points in Saturday's 5-1 win. Petan set up each of Michigan Tech's first two goals and then put the game away in third with a goal of his own.
In Friday's loss to St. Cloud, Petan mustered three shots on net and went 4-1 in the faceoff dot.
Petan now has 14 goals and 17 assists on the season which puts him in a tie for the conference lead in rookie scoring.
Last year, Petan led the Express in scoring with 38 goals and 55 assists on his way to being named the Coastal Conference MVP.
