Cole Pickup grabbed the early BCHL headlines this season, helping the Victoria Grizzlies to a nice start while racing out to the early scoring lead.
Now he’s getting ink again, as he’s committed to play NCAA Div. I hockey next season at the University of Nebraska-Omaha.
Pickup, who has eight goals and 10 assists in 11 games so far this season, currently sits third in league scoring. He’s been held off the scoresheet just once in those 11 games.
The Victoria native’s contributions have the Grizzlies tied with the rival Cowichan Valley Capitals for the lead in the Island Division going into the weekend.
At Nebraska-Omaha, Pickup will join a Mavericks team that currently features BCHL alums Colin Grannary, Riley Alferd, David Pope and Luke Nogard.
The Mavericks play in the NCAA’s National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) against rivals North Dakota, Denver, Colorado College, Western Michigan, Miami-Ohio, Minnesota-Duluth and St. Cloud State.
