Prince George and Trail alum DeSousa scores late-summer scholarship

School is almost in session but it wasn't too late for Nic DeSousa to enroll at Neumann College as the NCAA Division III school and their hockey program signed him to a scholarship.

The Fraser Lake, B.C. native split last year between the Prince George Spruce Kings and the Trail Smoke Eaters. He established a new career high in points by scoring 17 goals and 39 assists.

"It's exciting news to know that Nic has accepted a scholarship with Neumann College for next year," said Trail head coach Bill Birks, who was an assistant with the club when DeSousa joined them. "Nic was an outstanding player for us last year both on and off the ice.

"His hard work and dedication to the game will be a real asset for the Knights in the coming years."

The 6-foot, 180-pound forward spent the majority of his BCHL career in Prince George before joining Trail in January. Over 165 career games, he scored 50 goals and 68 assists to go along with 107 penalty minutes.

DeSousa will join Coquitlam Express graduate Matt Mazzarolo at Neumann College.
