Nanaimo Clippers forward Jack Rimmer, Sherwood Park Crusaders goaltender Filip Vavro and Cranbrook Bucks forward Kaslo Ferner have been named the NAPA Auto Parts 3 Stars of the Week.
1st Star – Jack Rimmer (F) – Nanaimo Clippers
Rimmer led all BCHL players with four goals last week, helping the Clippers to a 2-0-0 weekend.
On Friday night, in a divisional matchup with the Alberni Valley Bulldogs, the 20-year-old scored the eventual game-winning goal on a power play late in the first period, then sealed the game with an empty-netter in a 5-3 Nanaimo win. A night later, Rimmer notched another two goals, including the winner for the second night in a row, while also adding an assist in an 8-3 victory over the Coquitlam Express. He was named first star in both contests.
The Toronto, Ont. product is one off the team lead in goals with 24 on the season. He also has 25 assists to give him 49 points in 48 games, good enough for third in Clippers scoring.
2nd Star – Filip Vavro (G) – Sherwood Park Crusaders
Vavro made back-to-back starts for Sherwood Park last weekend, stopping 59 of 60 shots for a .983 save percentage and a 0.50 goals-against average, both tops among netminders with more than one start.
In Friday’s home game against the league-leading West Kelowna Warriors, the Slovakian stopper made 25 saves to earn his second shutout of the season in a 3-0 victory. The following night, Vavro stopped 34 of 35 shots to guide the Crusaders to a 2-1 win.
On the season, the 17-year-old has a 16-9-3 record with a .903 save percentage, seventh best in the BCHL, and a 3.09 goals-against average.
3rd Star – Kaslo Ferner (F) – Cranbrook Bucks
Ferner tied for the league lead in points last week with five in two games on a pair of goals and a trio of helpers.
The University of Vermont commit did all of his damage in Friday night’s road game against the Spruce Grove Saints. Ferner picked up two assists in the first period to help the Bucks to a 3-2 advantage, before contributed a goal and an assist in the second, both on the power play. He scored the insurance marker into an empty net in the final minutes to finish with a season-best five points. He was named first star in his team’s 6-4 victory.
Ferner rejoined the Bucks on Nov. 14 and is now the team’s third leading scorer with 34 points in 28 games, while his 15 goals are second most among Cranbrook skaters.
