Salmon Arm’s Zengerle named BCHL Player of the Week

Salmon Arm SilverBacks forward Mark Zengerle has been named the British Columbia Hockey League's Player of the Week for the week ending December 6th, the league announced Monday.

Zengerle, who is the reigning Interior Conference MVP, scored three goals and added four assists in two weekend games — both wins — for the SilverBacks.

On Friday, the 20-year old picked up the hat trick and added one assist in a 5-2 home ice win over the Trail Smoke Eaters. One night later, he set up three SilverBacks goals in a 6-1 victory over the Penticton Vees. He was named a game star in both contests, receiving the first star nod following Friday's game and second star honours after Saturday's triumph.

The Rochester, New York native now has 20 goals and 54 assists to show for 33 games played. He currently leads the BCHL scoring race by five points over Penticton Vees forward Denver Manderson.

Honourable mentions for the Player of the Week award included Powell River Kings forward Chad Niddery, Cowichan Valley Capitals forward Mike Hammond, Westside Warriors netminder Kevin Jebson and Merritt Centennials defenceman Derek Hills.

The SilverBacks return to the ice on Friday when they visit the Vernon Vipers. Gametime is 7:00 PM from the Wesbild Centre.
