Sherwood Park Crusaders forward Ethan Merner has been named the Alberta Division Player of the Week.
The 17-year-old scored three goals over the Crusaders two playoff games over the weekend, helping them take a 2-0 series advantage over the Blackfalds Bulldogs.
With Sherwood Park down 2-1 after the opening period, Merner potted his first of the playoffs 1:56 into the second to tie the game. He would later score the insurance marker into an empty net to make it a 5-3 final. He was named first star of the game.
In Game 2 on Saturday, the Kelowna, B.C. native scored the eventual game-winning goal with 25 seconds to play in the second period in the Crusaders 6-4 victory.
Merner’s three goals have him tied for first in the Alberta Division postseason, despite having played at least three fewer games than all other players with the same amount of goals.
