Smoke Eaters captain Mailey headed to SAIT to play for Trojans

The Trail Smoke Eaters are pleased to announce their seventh college commitment from this season as Paul Mailey has accepted an offer from the Southern Alberta Institue of Technology to play for the Trojans.

Mailey, a Trail native, served as the Smokies captain for each of the last two seasons.

“I'm super excited for Paul to be able to continue his hockey career and get an education from a great school,” said Smoke Eaters new bench boss Bill Birks, who served as associate coach last season. “He was the heart and soul of the Smoke Eaters and SAIT is getting a first-class guy both on the ice and in the classroom.”

The 5-foot-9, 170-pound forward played five seasons for the Smoke Eaters and suited up for 274 regular season games while notching 49 goals and 102 assists.

He played the full 60-game schedule three times including this season when he had a career-best 26 assists.
