Smoke Eaters host TRU Sept. 17; al proceeds go to Zanier family

Hockey players in the preseason usually don't need motivation when they're trying to make the club.

But there will be no shortage of incentive for players to put on a good show  in Trail on Saturday night as they are raising funds for longtime assistant coach Barry Zanier's family. Zanier's daughter Kolby is in Edmonton at Children's Hospital where she is awaiting a heart transplant.

All gate proceeds for the 7 p.m. game against Thompson Rivers University will go to the Zanier's to help with their efforts for their daughter.

"We would like to fill the rink that night to show our love for Kolby," said Smoke Eaters head coach Bill Birks.

The game will be the final exhibition contest for the Smokies who have been busy at Cominco Arena. It will be the fifth home contest of the preseason for Trail.
