Sowder scores POW nod

Wenatchee Wild forward Lucas Sowder has been named the BCHL Player of the Week for the week ending Mar. 17, the league announced Monday.

Sowder racked up four goals and two assists over three playoff games for the Wild, including a heroic game-seven performance to clinch a first-round victory for the Wild.

The 20-year-old started the week by scoring a natural hat trick in a span of less than 10 minutes in the second period of Game 7 of Wenatchee’s first-round series against the West Kelowna Warriors in an eventual 6-3 win. He added an assist and was named the game’s first star as the Wild advanced to the second round. In Game 1 of their Round 2 matchup with the Cowichan Valley Capitals on Friday, Sowder chipped in with an assist in a 3-2 loss. After Wenatchee gave up a two-goal lead in Game 2 on Saturday, the Trinity, Fla. native put his team back ahead by scoring the first of three straight goals for the Wild late in the second period in an eventual 6-3 win to even their series with the Capitals.

Sowder now leads the BCHL playoffs with 14 points in nine games, is tied for third with seven goals and tied for first with seven assists.
