St. Denis forces OT, sets up the winner as Vees go up 3-0 on Kings

Travis St. Denis forced Game 3 of the Fred Page Cup Finals into overtime on a goal with 17 seconds left in regulation and then set up the winner by Wade Murphy just more than five minutes into the extra frame.

The win puts the Penticton Vees up 3-0 on the Powell River Kings in the best-of-seven series.

Powell River got the start they were looking for at home with goals from Cohen Adair and Brendon MacDonald putting them up 2-0 after 20 minutes.

Troy Stecher cut the lead in half in the second with a goal at the 15:16 mark but Adair restored the Kings two-goal lead near the midway point of the third with his second of the night.

The Vees did not roll over and go away however. Just over three minutes after Adair's goal, veteran defenceman Nick Buchanan scored his second career playoff goal to get the Vees within one. Then, with time winding down, St. Denis potted the tying goal with goalie Chad Katunar on the bench for the extra attacker.

In overtime, Murphy converted a setup from St. Denis and Stecher to deliver the win for Penticton.

Game 4 is set for Wednesday night at 7 p.m. in Powell River.
